Ota is a Tokyo ward on the capital's southeastern edge, defined above all by Haneda Airport, which sits almost entirely within its borders and handles most of Tokyo's domestic and a growing share of its international traffic. Kamata, the ward's main commercial hub, keeps a grittier, older Tokyo character, its arcades and small factories a holdover from the district's manufacturing past. The Tama River forms the ward's southern border with Kanagawa Prefecture, its banks a popular cycling and running route. Ota stays largely residential and industrial away from the airport itself. Direct monorail and rail links connect the airport to central Tokyo in under twenty minutes.
