Setagaya

Setagaya is Tokyo's most populous ward, a mostly residential stretch of the city's southwest with its own elected assembly and a character distinct from the high-rise core. Sangenjaya, one of its best-known neighborhoods, built a reputation on small bars and izakayas packed into narrow lanes near the station. Shimokitazawa, on the ward's border, is the city's best-known secondhand and live-music district. The Tokyu Setagaya rail line, a single-car tram-like train, still runs through quieter residential stretches. Green space and parkland run deeper here than in most of central Tokyo.
