Manchester is the working capital of the north of England, a city that rebuilt itself on music, football, university muscle, and a film and television industry that has matured into a serious second base for UK production. Studios and post houses cluster around MediaCityUK, Salford, and the Northern Quarter; agencies and indie production work fill Ancoats, Spinningfields, and Castlefield.

Manchester eats Northern English with depth and an Indian belt that runs from the Curry Mile in Rusholme to the family kitchens of Levenshulme: fish and chips, pies (proper, the gravy goes inside), full English at the cafes of the Northern Quarter, plus Cantonese in Chinatown and a serious independent coffee scene around Ancoats.
