Salary: $17.5 - $21.9 (hourly)

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The New York City Police Department strives to foster a safe and fair city through the strategic deployment of resources, focusing on both crime prevention and addressing quality-of-life concerns while building lasting community relationships. The NYPD is seeking a skilled and motivated College Aid to join the Personnel Bureau’s Business Process Improvement (BPI) Program Management Office (PMO). This key role will support the Executive Director and City Research Scientists in driving strategic business process improvements across the agency’s HR functions. This is a student position with a maximum tenure of six years. The student will work part-time for any period in which classes are in session with the option to work full-time during vacation periods. Key Duties/Responsibilities include: • Project Coordination - Support the execution of various HR-related projects by preparing presentations, developing meeting agendas, attending meetings, documenting outcomes and action items, and assisting with project deliverables. • Business Process Improvement Research - Analyze current HR practices and conduct research to identify opportunities for improvement. • Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Development - Research, develop, and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to promote consistent and effective organizational practices. • Quality Assurance and Document Review - Conduct quality assurance (QA) reviews of SOPs, providing detailed feedback to improve consistency and compliance of project materials. • Data Management - Maintain and update data spreadsheets, issue logs, and archival project records; organize documentation to ensure accurate reporting. Minimum Qualifications

For Assignment Level I: Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school. For Assignment Level II (Information Technology): Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow): Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications. SPECIAL NOTE Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.

Preferred Skills

  • Currently pursuing a two- or four-year degree in business administration, human resources, labor relations, or a related field. • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with a focus on detail and continuous improvement. • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
