Development Engineer Brilliance Enschede, Netherlands Posted on Aug 14, 2026 About the role Your job will be twofold. On the one hand you will develop technology into feasible products: this involves the physics of (integrated) photonics, understanding and identifying customer needs, and combining the two to develop innovative next-generation products from concept to feasible product. On the other hand you will be the lead contact for our customers, supporting them with optimal integration of our RGB laser light engine. Your development experience will let you find the match between customer needs and product capability, and set realistic development targets. Brilliance is a start-up, but we lean on more than 20 years of technology development and IP within the Twente area. We are currently delivering prototypes to our customers while growing the company and preparing for high-volume production, a unique opportunity to join our core team at an exciting phase. What you'll do - Pre-development: design, modelling and prototyping of new concepts (about 40% of the role). - Lead customer contact (about 25%). - Testing and verification of existing and new designs (about 25%). - Project management (about 10%). What we're looking for - Broad technical interest, and the ability to combine fundamental thinking with a practical, result-driven approach. - A self-starter with the willingness to explore and learn new technical areas. - An MSc, PhD or BSc in a relevant field such as (applied) physics, electrical engineering, or similar. - A minimum of 2-3 years of relevant work experience. - Some experience in miniature electronics, optics and/or simulation and software is preferred.
