Hej Software Developer!

Inter IKEA Group connects IKEA franchisees with range development and suppliers and ensures alignment of the overall IKEA strategic direction. Every day, we strive to develop, produce, and sell products and services that are affordable and accessible to everyone.

This role is positioned in Retail Concept Operations, Digital Engineering and Technology Platform Management. You will belong to the Commercial Intelligence team, reporting to the Technology Manager.

Digital Engineering and Technology Platform Management is where we build, run and continuously improve the digital products and platforms that power the IKEA franchise offer. We bring together software engineering, platform engineering and quality engineering competence to create optimal preconditions for the business and people who design, develop and manage IKEA's offer across a connected and optimised value chain - all to deliver growth and enable low cost. We are fully integrated into the development process, providing competence, tools, solutions, processes and ways of working across many different areas. We work in cross-functional, agile teams that value ownership, collaboration and continuous improvement, and we're never done exploring better tools, technologies and practices to build a stronger digital foundation for IKEA's digital products and business.

Our team is based in Malmö, Sweden.

About the role

As a Software Developer, you’ll play an important part in the team and bring valuable IKEA knowledge into a new setting. In the coming years, we will continue to build the digital backbone that connects our range, our data and our customer experience - and semantic technologies are at the heart of how we make that connection meaningful. Your primary focus will be continuing to grow our knowledge graph and data-driven capabilities. We hope that you are curious about ontologies, data modelling and building software that helps machines and people understand IKEA's world a little better.

This is an entry-level software engineering role, assigned to a technology domain or digital product. You'll work on one or several product components - spanning front-end, back-end, mobile, data modelling, data ingestion pipelines, or embedded systems depending on your area.

You'll be part of a team that values quality, reuse, and learning from each other. You'll plan your own work, keep the backlog up to date, and contribute both to day-to-day delivery and to continuously improving how the team works. The impact of our work continues to resonate in homes and hearts across the world.

On a typical working day, you will:

  • Develop and maintain software solutions within your assigned technology domain, platform, or product area.
  • Deliver tested, maintainable, and deployable code that supports business outcomes while adhering to architectural principles, security requirements, and engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with your product team to create robust, scalable, and cohesive solutions, always prioritizing the overall product experience.
  • Plan and organize development work effectively by breaking down complex tasks, prioritizing high-impact activities, and maintaining an up-to-date backlog.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering standards, ways of working, and development practices while staying curious about emerging technologies and innovations.
  • Support delivery planning and performance tracking through activities such as feature estimation, backlog refinement, and monitoring team throughput.
  • Maintain clear and accurate technical documentation and actively share knowledge, expertise, and learnings with teammates.
  • Contribute to solution ideation and design by developing proposals, prototypes, mock-ups, data models, and configurations that help shape future product capabilities.

What we’d like you to bring to the table

The role as a Software Developer requires you to:

  • Have solid IKEA experience
  • Have a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Have up to three years of experience in software development, making this an excellent opportunity for early-career professionals looking to grow their expertise.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of software engineering principles and hands-on experience developing high-quality software solutions.
  • Have experience working with agile development practices, continuous integration, and automated deployment tools.
  • Possess technical knowledge within software development, with an interest in or exposure to semantic technologies.
  • Bring a collaborative and solution-oriented mindset, combined with a strong curiosity for learning and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Be comfortable navigating ambiguity, taking ownership, and approaching complex challenges with a pragmatic mindset.

It is a plus if you also:

  • Have experience working with semantic technologies such as Metaphactory, RDFox, or similar platforms.
  • Have experience independently evaluating, testing, and prototyping new technologies or technical solutions.
  • Are familiar with the IKEA culture, values, and ways of working.
