Best area for transit: Sukhumvit hotels within walking distance of a BTS stop give you the most flexibility. Lines 1 and 2 connect central Bangkok to Suvarnabhumi Airport in under 30 minutes.
Budget range: Hostels from 200-400 THB/night near Khao San Road. Mid-range 3-star hotels run 800-2,000 THB. Luxury properties on the Chao Phraya river start at 4,000 THB.
Booking timing: Bangkok hotels rarely sell out except during Songkran (mid-April) and high season (Nov-Feb). Booking 2-3 days ahead usually finds good rates; last-minute deals are common outside peak season.
