Freelance Rust Interviewer

We are looking for an experienced Rust developer to conduct technical interviews for software engineering candidates. As a Freelance Rust Interviewer, you will evaluate candidates’ practical knowledge of the Rust language, systems programming concepts, and real-world problem-solving skills. You will provide clear, structured feedback that helps hiring teams make informed decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct live technical interviews (video) focused on Rust
  • Assess candidates on:
    • Core Rust language features (ownership, borrowing, lifetimes, traits, generics, etc.)
    • Memory safety, concurrency, and performance considerations
    • Common crates and ecosystem knowledge (tokio, serde, clap, etc.)
    • Systems programming, embedded, or backend/web contexts as relevant
    • Code quality, testing practices, and debugging approach
  • Design or adapt technical questions, coding exercises, and system-design style discussions suitable for different seniority levels
  • Provide written feedback and scoring shortly after each interview
  • Maintain a professional, fair, and candidate-friendly interview experience
  • Occasionally help refine the interview process or question bank

Requirements

  • Strong, hands-on experience with Rust (preferably 3+ years of professional use)
  • Solid understanding of systems programming concepts and the Rust ecosystem
  • Previous experience conducting technical interviews or mentoring is a strong plus
  • Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken)
  • Ability to evaluate candidates objectively and give constructive feedback
  • Reliable availability for scheduled interviews (flexible hours preferred)
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote freelance setting

Nice to Have

  • Experience interviewing for senior or staff-level roles
  • Familiarity with common interview platforms (CoderPad, HackerRank, Zoom, etc.)
  • Background in concurrent systems, networking, embedded, or high-performance applications
  • Contributions to open-source Rust projects or public technical writing
